About this site
ecopoetry.ie is a curated directory of ecopoetry — poets, books, journals, prizes and organisations, with an emphasis on Ireland. Links, with enough context to be useful.
Compiled and edited by Simon James Brady.
Independent and non-commercial. Not affiliated with any publisher, journal, prize or organisation named here. Nothing has been paid for or solicited, and offers of paid placement are not answered.
Looking for the explainer rather than the site? That is What ecopoetry is.
The rules
Works, not people. Entries are about books: title, publisher, year, subject matter, links. No biography of living writers — no dates, health, family or career history.
No poems. The site never reproduces poems, in whole or in part, whatever their copyright status. It names, describes and links to texts published elsewhere.
No rankings. Nothing here calls a book major, a journal one of record, or a poet widely regarded as anything. Any opinion is plainly the editor’s, and definitions are attributed to whoever made them.
Nothing fragile. No submission windows, payment rates, editorial teams, forthcoming titles or prize deadlines. Those change faster than this site does; the link goes to whoever maintains them.
Ecopoetry, not poetry. General literary journals, presses and prizes are out of scope however good they are.
Inclusion is not a claim that someone is an “ecopoet” — most of the poets here have never used the word. Omission is usually just an entry not yet written.
Sources
In order of preference: the writer’s own site or estate; the publisher; a national library or cultural institution; a university; Poetry Foundation or the Academy of American Poets; an established literary organisation; a government or scientific body.
Where something cannot be confirmed it is left out rather than guessed. Outbound links go to writers, publishers, libraries, journals and public bodies — never to unauthorised poem-hosting sites, and never as an endorsement of everything at the destination.
The editor’s own work
Listed under Irish poets, in its own labelled section, on the same terms as every other entry.
Corrections and removal
If you are a writer, publisher or estate and want an entry amended or removed, it will be — promptly, and without your needing to give a reason.
